Gispen Specials - The Customer is Always Right
Willem Hendrik Gispen (1890-1981) gained worldwide acclaim with his steel pipe furniture. Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Gispen company by presenting a selection of Gispen’s ‘specials’, designs commissioned by the Van Nelle Factory, the Rotterdamse Schouwburg, friends and a young Princess Juliana of the Netherlands.

Fra Bartolommeo - The Divine Renaissance
The 500th anniversary of Italian painter Fra Bartolommeo’s death at age 44 will be in 2017. He was revered for his drawings and paintings during the High Renaissance. Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen has the world’s largest collection of drawings by Fra Bartolommeo and is presenting a special exhibition that pays tribute to this remarkable artist-monk

Ata Kandó - I Shall Use My TimeWith the exhibition Ata Kandó - I Shall Use My Time, the Nederlands Fotomuseum pays tribute to photographer Ata Kandó (Hungary, 1913). The Nederlands Fotomuseum archives a large part of her oeuvre and this autumn will present its first exhibition entirely devoted to her life and work. Included in the exhibition are intimate portraits of her parents, sister, lovers and children as well as photographs never previously displayed from her renowned series Droom in het woud (Dream in the forest) and Kalypso & Nausikaä.

Simultaan Modernisme - Simultanität der Moderne
A leading architectural landmark in Rotterdam city of architecture is the Van Nelle Factory that is now almost 90 years old. It is considered worldwide to be one of the icons of Modernism. This period between the two world wars is characterised by innovation in the fields of architecture, design, urban development and visuals arts. After the Van Nelle Factory was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site on 21 June 2014, the Stiftung Bauhaus Dessau and Stichting Werelderfgoed Van Nellefabriek foundations joined forces to breathe new life into their historically close ties. The 'Simultaan Modernisme-Simultatintät der Moderne' project forms the kick-off of this rekindled relationship. It is a joint project of the Van Nelle Factory (Bauhaus), the Museumpark Villas - Sonneveld House Museum & Chabot Museum - and Kiefhoek District. Visitors will be able to visit a range of exhibitions and presentations that will together provide a clear overview of the key developments of the Modernism period.

Bauhaus Dessau - Branding Rotterdam
Paintings, sculptures, drawings and graphic designs from the Bauhaus Dessau collection will be displayed alongside the ultramodern work of Henk Chabot and his contemporaries. The Chabot Museum will exhibit an extensive selection of work from artists studying at Het Bauhaus under the instruction of greats such as Kandinsky, Itten and Klee. This exhibition provides an initial introduction that gives unique insights and perspective on the international avant-garde in Dessau and Rotterdam. The passionate impulse to experiment, innovate and change and the pursuant discovery of new visual solutions to help create a new world are central to this exhibition. This exhibition is part of Simultaan Modernisme.

Making Africa - Continent of Contemporary DesignAfrica has joined the digital world with access to internet and more than 650 million mobile phones – more than in Europe or the United States. The ‘Making Africa’ exhibition at Kunsthal Rotterdam presents the work of more than 120 artists and designers to show how design reacts to the economic and political changes on the continent.
