Rotterdam MTV EMA 2016 6 November 2016
Rotterdam is hosting the 2016 MTV EMA on Sunday, 6 November in Rotterdam Ahoy. It’s one of the world’s biggest music awards shows. This is the second time this world-class event is being held in Rotterdam, after its first successful visit to the city in 1997. The first performances announced are Bruno Mars, Shawn Mendes, DNCE, Lukas Graham and Zara Larsson. The big nominees are Beyoncé and Justin Bieber with five nominations. MTV Music WeekMTV Music Week takes place in Rotterdam in the run-up to the 2016 MTV EMA. The roud-day event features a diverse range of national and international artists performing at surprising locations throughout the city.
Top DJ Afrojack, MTV presenter Kay Nambiar and influencer Monica Geuze are the official ambassadors of MTV Music Week. The latter will host her own ‘Monica Geuze & Friends’ show at the Annabel music venue in Rotterdam.Read more
Friday 4 November & Saturday 5 NovemberMTV presents REC. festivalA new indoor festival hits the scene in Rotterdam Central District: MTV presents REC. The international line-up transcends genre, with plenty of room for hip hop and electronic. The line-up includes Skepta, SBTRKT, Santigold, Lianne La Havas and Mount Kimbie. REC. features performances at seven venues near Rotterdam Central Station: Annabel, Transport, BAR, Perron, Hiphophuis and Biergarten. Rotterdam, I Love YouRotterdam, I Love You is a film by the international urban-development movement Cities of Love. After Paris, New York and Rio de Janeiro, Rotterdam is the fourth city in the series, to be released in 2018. It is the first film for which the city and its residents have been asked to provide input. The film shows different story lines that are intertwined and directed by eleven different directors. International Film Festival Rotterdam collaborates with Rotterdam, I Love You with respect to the project’s creative development by providing master classes and workshops during IFFR’s coproduction market CineMart.Read more
KINOThe new KINO Rotterdam cinema located at Gouvernestraat 129-133 in Rotterdam opens on Thursday, 20 October. This marks the reopening of this historical building with its rich cultural heritage. KINO has four theatres and also a bar and a restaurant. It also offers creative workspace for the audio-visual industry (BURO). KINO Rotterdam presents a diverse selection of films ranging from arthouse to blockbusters and from shorts to classics.
International Film Festival RotterdamThe 46th edition of the International Film Festival Rotterdam takes place from 25 January through 5 February 2017. Film takes centre stage in Rotterdam for twelve days with an extensive and varied programme of films, lectures, debates, talk shows and live performances.Read more
Songbird festival
The sixth edition of the intimate indoor Songbird festival takes place on 27 and 28 November in De Doelen in Rotterdam. The line-up for Saturday night features artists including Jonathan Jeremiah, Michael Kiwanuka and Postmen performing on three different stages. Sunday showcases performances by Jake Bugg, Selah Sue, Alex Vargas, Emil Landman and Smith & Thell performing on six stages.Read more
The Quietus Festival
WORM is a celebrated institute for avant-garde entertainment in Rotterdam. It asked internationally-acclaimed music site The Quietus to help programme an alternative day festival in Rotterdam. Headliner: Mike Watt (USA) of The Stooges and Minutemen fame is to perform his rock opera 'Il Sogno Del Marinaio' with Stefano Pirlo and Andrea Belfi (ITA). Other acts include ILL (UK) and The Germans (BE). The festival also features films and readings. The Quietus Festival takes place on Saturday, 29 October.Read more
